The trial of the French girl, adopted this summer, ended Saturday. His lawyer said he was confident.
At the other end, the voice is confident. « I pleaded for an acquittal for my client. I am very optimistic, « insists Mohammad Ali Mahdavi Sabet, contacted in Tehran by Le Figaro. Arrested during the summer in full post-election crisis, Clotilde Reiss appeared for the fourth time on Saturday before the Revolutionary Court in Tehran. The hearing presented as the last one lasted over two hours. Accompanied by the Ambassador of France and his chief adviser, the French girl has once again forced to defend against the three main charges against her, having participated in illegal demonstrations, sending information by e-mail and undermining the state security. In Iran, these offenses are punishable by law, for several years in prison.
Justice now has a week to give its verdict. « The atmosphere was more relaxed and hopefully good news, » says the lawyer, who continues to insist on the innocence of his client. For its part, the spokesman for the Quai d’Orsay, Bernard Valero, wishes she « could quickly regain France.
First accused of spying and imprisoned in Evin prison, Clotilde Reiss, 24, had appeared on August 1 before the revolutionary tribunal during a hearing and collective television within the trial group of opponents and demonstrators that followed the controversial election of Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, last June 12. She was later released on bail. It is from within the confines of the Embassy of France. Passionate about Iran and fluent in Persian, the young woman had spent several months in Isfahan to teach the French before his arrest, the day of his departure from Iran, the Tehran airport.
Suggest a possible barter
Very quickly politicized the matter Reiss did not fail to embitter relations, already strained between France and Iran. Then, the suggestion by Tehran of a possible swap cons of Iranian prisoners appears to have strengthened the dispute between the two countries. « You should know that there are some Iranians who are in prison in France for years. They are prisoners, too, have families, they too have a father, mother, said in September, President Ahmadinejad’s special envoy to Tehran France 2.
The France was officially shown the opposite to that exchange offer which, experts say the case, would refer to two men in particular. The first name is Ali Vakili Rad. Accused of murdering a former Iranian prime minister in exile, in 1991, he has served eighteen years in prison in France and hopes to release soon. The second, was Kakavand Majid, an Iranian engineer in France and detained within the scope of a U.S. request for extradition. The French courts must decide on his case in mid-February.

Arrêtée pendant l’été, en pleine crise post-électorale, Clotilde Reiss a comparu pour la quatrième fois, samedi, devant le tribunal révolutionnaire de Téhéran. L’audience, présentée comme étant la dernière, a duré plus de deux heures. Accompagnée de l’ambassadeur de France et de son premier conseiller, la jeune Française a, une nouvelle fois, dû se défendre face aux trois principales accusations qui pèsent contre elle : avoir participé aux manifestations illégales, avoir envoyé des informations par e-mail et avoir porté atteinte à la sécurité de l’État. En Iran, ces différents délits sont passibles, selon la loi en vigueur, de plusieurs années de prison.
La justice dispose désormais d’une semaine pour donner son verdict. «L’ambiance était plutôt détendue et j’ose espérer une bonne nouvelle», poursuit l’avocat, qui ne cesse d’insister sur l’innocence de sa cliente. Pour sa part, le porte-parole du Quai d’Orsay, Bernard Valero, souhaite qu’elle «puisse rapidement regagner la France».
D’abord accusée d’espionnage et incarcérée à la prison d’Evin, Clotilde Reiss, 24 ans, était apparue le 1er août au tribunal révolutionnaire lors d’une audience collective et télévisée, dans le cadre des procès groupés d’opposants et de manifestants qui ont suivi l’élection controversée de Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, le 12 juin dernier. Elle avait ensuite été libérée sous caution. Elle réside, depuis, dans l’enceinte de l’ambassade de France. Passionnée d’Iran et parlant couramment le persan, la jeune femme venait de passer plusieurs mois à Ispahan pour y enseigner le français, avant son arrestation, le jour de son départ d’Iran, à l’aéroport de Téhéran.
Suggestion d’un possible troc
Très vite politisée, l’affaire Reiss n’a pas manqué d’envenimer les relations, déjà tendues, entre la France et l’Iran. Puis, la suggestion par Téhéran d’un possible troc contre des prisonniers iraniens semble avoir renforcé le contentieux entre les deux pays. «Vous devez savoir qu’il y a quelques Iraniens qui sont en prison en France depuis des années. Ce sont des prisonniers qui, eux aussi, ont une famille, eux aussi ont un père, une mère», avait déclaré, en septembre, le président Ahmadinejad à l’envoyé spécial de France 2 à Téhéran.
La France s’était officiellement montrée opposée à cette offre d’échange qui, selon les experts du dossier, ferait allusion à deux hommes en particulier. Le premier s’appelle Ali Vakili Rad. Accusé d’avoir assassiné un ex-premier ministre iranien en exil, en 1991, il vient de purger dix-huit ans de prison en France et espère sa libération proche. Le second n’est autre que Madjid Kakavand, un ingénieur iranien retenu en France et sous le coup d’une demande américaine d’extradition. La justice française doit se prononcer sur son cas à la mi-février.
