Le réalisateur iranien Jafar Panahi, qui soutient ouvertement l’opposition au président Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, a été arrêté lundi soir à son domicile de Téhéran alors qu’il était avec sa famille et une quinzaine d’invités. Le fils du metteur en scène, Panah Panahi a annoncé sur le site internet de l’opposition Rahesabz que Jafar Panahi «a été emmené avec sa femme, sa fille et ses invités vers une destination inconnue par des hommes en civil qui ont fait irruption dans sa maison lundi soir.» Les hommes avaient, au préalable, perquisitionné la maison du cinéaste où ils ont saisi des ordinateurs et des affaires personnelles. Par ailleurs aucun motif n’a été précisé pour cet emprisonnement.

Le réalisateur, dont les longs métrages ont remporté de nombreux prix internationaux, dont le Prix de la Caméra d’or à Cannes en 1995 pour Le Ballon blanc , un Lion d’or à la Mostra de Venise en 2000 pour Le Cercle et l’Ours d’argent à la Berlinale en 2006 pour Hors jeu, n’a par ailleurs plus le droit de quitter l’Iran depuis qu’il a publiquement apporté son soutien à l’opposition lors du festival du Film de Montréal l’été dernier. Une interdiction qui l’a d’ailleurs empêché de se rendre à la Berlinale au mois de février dernier, alors qu’il y était invité. Jafar Panahi avait déjà été arrêté l’été dernier avec sa famille après avoir assisté à une cérémonie à la mémoire de Neda Agha Soltan, une jeune manifestante tuée lors des manifestations de protestation contre la réélection du président Ahmadinejad en juin.
